Flag of the Cape Colony
The flag of the Cape Colony flew from 1876 to 1910 in the Cape Colony, at which point the Cape, Natal, Orange River, and Transvaal colonies were united into a new South African dominion. The flag features a British Blue Ensign defaced with the coat of arms of the colony, which is comprised of a red shield upon which a golden lion sits between three golden rings and below three golden fleur-de-lis in blue disks, contained in a silver strip. Above the shield sits the Lady of Good Hope, supported by a Wildebeest and Gemsbok dexter and sinister respectively, while below is the Latin motto "Spes Bona", meaning directly "Good Hope" in English.
This flag has a 1:2 proportion, and is made of lightweight polyester; intended for internal decoration and outdoor display. It's colours are bright and true to the images shown and will be a welcome edition to any collection or display.
